Ás vezes pergunto-me o que Cassiodoro ou Alcuíno teriam feito de um livro moderno sobre a Idade Média. Encontraria uma suposição à qual poderia reagir mais ou menos assim : " O que é esta era de transição, da Antiguidade para o mundo medieval , no qual diz que eu vivi ?
